Salsa etiquette

When you go to a class or club there are a few things that you could do that will make it an even better experience for you and others.

Have fun! Everyone is going out with the aim of enjoying the evening.

Smile – enjoy yourself. But not at the expense of your partner! Respect their values and personal space. Guys let the ladies tell you how close they wish to be, and ladies don’t hang on your man! Always start with fingertip control and a light touch.

We were all beginners once. Improvers please make sure you ask the beginners to dance and make sure you give them space on the dance floor to enjoy the evening as much as you do.

Be careful and considerate to others. Try not to play bumper cars on the dance floor!!

Look after your partner – ladies and guys – you need to look out for each other. Keep your steps small and try not to kick or tread on your fellow dancers.

Guys learn to do your moves well and on time – it’s not the number of moves you can do but how comfortable you can make it for your partner.

Treat everyone both on and off the dance floor with respect.

Before coming out for the evening make sure that you have showered and bring a towel, antiperspirant and maybe even a change of clothes with you if necessary. Ladies just think how many outfits you can show off in an evening!

Guys - ask a lady to dance, and ladies: don’t be shy - ask a guy to dance as well.

Most importantly – Have Fun!
